Senior Tasso, the Italian violinist and friend of Lord Gordon, refuses the advances of the Lords wife. She tears her dress and cries out for her husband, throwing dishonor on his good friend Tasso. Lord Gordon kills Tasso to defend his wife’s honor, but in his dying breath he casts a curse on them.

Hugo Catterick was a brilliant criminologist and charming gentleman who had such a wonderful flair for solving crimes, which carried a hint of the macabre. He died back in the 1920’s and they say that everybody came to his funeral. Hugo Catterick left his memoirs and the very first chapter deals with an infamous crime, which, in June of the year 1922, threw all of New York City in to an uproar of horror. Such was the Case of the Lonesome Corpse.

The nine old men living in the shabby Schooner Hotel on the New York waterfront, including rich Larry Stebbings, were very good friends and had made a pact that who ever survived them all would inherit all of the others' wealth. Until Stebbings had joined the pact the whole prize for surviving hadn’t been more than 20,000 and now it was millions. But Larry had joined to see if he could lick the game of death like he had licked everything else.

There is strange goings on at the Horton’s and talk of a wolf like creature from the swamp.

Elmer Korn is a manure picker who gets stopped on the highway by a two skeleton police officer's who were expecting him. Further along the lonley dark highway he knocks a man over who was walking in the middle of the street. The man is dead and asks Elmer to take him to the Highway of Death cafe. Everyone on the Highway of Death has been killed in a car accident except Elmer Korn who has crossed from the living world in to the outer plain...
